Car owners are not required to provide proof of car insurance at the time of registration in Illinois. But once the car owner register the car in Illinois he will need to affirm that the car is insured. In Illinois the required minimum liability insurance is 20/40/15. This means you will be required to buy Bodily injury liability limits of $20,000 per person up to $40,000 for more than one person per accident and $15,000 property damage per accident.
In Illinois, a new resident must change their car registration and order license plates within thirty days of becoming a resident. The Illinois Service for Motorists states that you also must surrender your out of state license to receive an Illinois driver’s license. This must be done within ninety days.
